gender to me is like a car i dont really want one and society would be much better if it was not structured around it. but i got one because it helps me get around and sometimes its fun to make it go fast

and people tell you to move to one of a handful of cities if you want to avoid having one, but when you get there the majority of people have one anyway and jobs expect you to as well

Car dependence has ruined the physical and social infrastructure of this country. If we want any revolution we need Walkable safe human scaled cities

My Experience Is Not Universal, but when I was like, 17-19 I think? I had a period of my life where I was extremely cynical of the media I enjoyed. Part of it was that I started reading better, meaning I was suddenly aware of all the flaws in works that I used to enjoy when I was younger. But if I saw what I considered to be a fatal flaw, I HAD to obsess over it, preface all my talks about it with "ok x is bad BUT" and such

And like, I dunno man, as I grew older I found that I was much happier engaging in media in good faith, and try to do it on whatever ground it was trying to present. Sometimes a story straight-up isn't trying to have a deep and cohesive worldbuilding and that's like. Fine. The most important question is: Am I balling? And if the answer is yes, then I try not to put an overall focus on the flaws. And if the answer is no, I just leave and/or forget about it. I don't have the brainspace to hate shit for too long it bums me out man. I like to enjoy things sometimes actually.

When I'm in charge of the planet, it will be illegal to make a job posting unless you are actively searching for a candidate.

Lean staffing will also be illegal. If you need three people to do a job, you're hiring four.

You are also either earning an amount or you are not earning that amount. 'Earn up to 21.50/hr' no. Either you're paying 21.50 or you are not paying 21.50. Tell the truth or jail for employer for 1000 years.

Since I see a lot of people reblogging this with “#me,” or something similar, I just want to say something. I’m not going to pretend that anything I can say will reverse mental illness or undo depression. But I want to say it nonetheless.

Because of how light works, you are the center of the observable universe. If you drew a perfect map of space, and your friend several feet to your right did, they would be ever-so-slightly different at the edges. You’d have a couple of feet extra on the left side; your friend on the right.

Because of how time works, your past is utterly unchangeable—and the possibilities in your future are limitless. You alter entire timelines every time you take a breath.

Because of how the mind works, you will never be anyone else—and you will always be new. Today you isn’t yesterday you. Your personal experience is important. It has to be, because you’re the center of the universe, and because everything you do affects every other part of it.

If the universe is important, then by necessity you are important. If the universe is unimportant, then why not do your best to just relax and enjoy life?

Things are, generally speaking, rough right now. I don’t think I have to explain why. But all hope is not yet lost. If you love the world, then it is important. If you love the universe, then you love yourself. And if you don’t feel that way right now… then I’m really sorry that your situation has caused you to feel that way. But I truly believe (and hope) that you can get there. It starts with deciding to look out for number one.

Self-centeredness isn’t wrong. It’s holy. Done right, it’s a part of how the universe cares. Don’t be ashamed of self-love, and if you feel useless—just remember that there is no set purpose to life, other than to live it the way you want.

You aren’t an NPC. You’re not even a PC. You’re the P. Purpose lives within you, whether you can feel it right now or not.

Good luck now <|:^)

I think an important thing to remember when discussing how fate handles its servant designs is that fate as a series was not created to be "a franchise about historical and mythological figures". The servants were simply a tool used to tell the story of fate stay night. It just so happened to be that the servants became the most popular part and so later on with other installments that became the focus. The identities of the mythological figures themselves are not even that important in fate stay night. Really only saber's story gets much attention because she's a main heroine. What I'm saying here is that fate never intended to try and be a historically/mythologically accurate portrayal. Understandably if people get into fate because of their interests of history/mythology they're likely to be disappointed. What fate ACTUALLY does is use myths as inspiration, changing and combining them to make something new, which is actually pretty similar to how many of these myths came about in the first place. It's important to keep in mind that fate is a type-moon work first and a story about historical figures second

The union busting firms are scared

esoteric-merit

As a fine dining cook, I found work in a union workplace around a year ago.

My 40 hours a week are guaranteed except for Jan/feb/mar when there’s not enough customers, I get paid almost twice what I did at any other restaurant, if I work overtime, (more than 8 hours in one day, or more than 40 in a week), I actually get overtime pay, (and it’s 1.5x my normal rate!).

I get holiday pay, and in addition I get to either bank or pay out my holidays if I work those days, (either a paid day off when I want it, in addition to the holiday pay, or I get paid an add’l 8 hours at 1.5x that week). I also get two floating holidays, 4 paid random sick days, 2 paid family sick days, and 4 paid “doctor’s note” sick days, (paid out by our health insurance), as well as general allowance to take as many unpaid sick days as I want without worrying for my job security. (I’ve been told that taking multiple months off is where we start to be concerned about abuse, so if I want to do that, I can go through our leave of absence procedures instead, where I’m allowed three 2-week periods a year generally for whatever reason I want, (If my manager wants to disagree, he has to get the union president’s approval), and after that it’s up to my manager to decide if he’ll accept them).

I get two weeks of paid vacation time a year, and an add’l week per year for every 5 years I work there.

We get our legally mandated breaks, which, I know that sounds like a low bar, but taking anything other than a smoke break in a kitchen?!?! Unheard of! I get two 15′s and a lunch every shift! I get to sitdown and rest my legs and not get flak for it!

I get a bonus at the end of the year, there’s official procedures for if my manager isn’t happy with me or wants to get rid of me, (three meetings, during which my union representative has to be present), (and getting rid of my classification doesn’t work, there’s rules for how someone ‘bumps’ other people if classifications are gotten rid of), and severance pay for when full-time employees that are downsized out of the company, there’s a pension plan, like . . .
Guys, I have a 40-page handbook which details all of the rights my union has won me, and believe me, I’ve never had any of these at any prior workplace.

And you know what my union dues are? $4 a paycheck.

Of course I’m going to pay my union dues for all of those benefits.

worldsentwined

Reblogging for this incredibly thorough explanation of what it's like to actually have a contract in place at a union workplace. I reblog a fair number of posts about how people should organize, but if you're like me, you might not know exactly what that can get you until you've actually gone through the process. Every contract is different because you bargain for what makes sense for your particular workplace, and every few years you re-negotiate with the employer to improve things in the next contract, but some things (like the right to have union representation when you talk to your boss about leave or discipline) are universal.

It's worth every penny of your dues, I promise.
